Description

This 2 day programme will assist the learner to recognise common mental health symptoms of an individual who may be in crisis and to assist them where possible.

The learner will gain an awareness of mental health disorders, and learn how to support and manage positive and negative factors affecting the individual within the workplace.

The learner will learn how to empathise with the individual, to implement timely interventions and promote social and vocational integration in the workplace.

This course will be very practical in nature with scenario and workshop based training over the 2 days.

This training course is not intended to replace the input of medically trained professionals, instead, it is designed to teach people to know the signs and symptoms of mental illness and to provide help in a first aid capacity.

Learners who complete the course will receive an Anderlift certified Mental Health First Aid Certificate.

 

Role of Mental Health First Aider

The MHFA in the workplace is a point of contact for an employee who is experiencing a mental health issue.

The MHFA interaction with the individual maybe an initial conversation through to supporting the individual accessing the appropriate help or service they need.

The MHFA has a key role in early intervention and will be trained to:

  • Recognise the signs and symptoms of Mental ill-health
  • Communicate and listen empathetically
  • Assess the level of distress the person is in and what interventions are needed
  • Encourage the person to access appropriate services
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Protect themselves while carrying out their role

Tutor

The trainer delivering this programme holds qualifications in Social Care and Healthcare as well as many other related disciplines. Prior to becoming a full time trainer with Anderlift, our trainer spent 28 years as a Social Care Worker, specialising in working with adults with varying degrees of intellectual and mental health difficulties. As a result of this experience, our trainer will bring a very practical aspect to this training course as a result of their experience in working in both the public and private sectors.
